Please Donate!

Okay, I'm going to be a little bit selfish here and beg for money so I can pay my bills and finish college.  I lost home Internet access June 29th (I am typing this on a public library terminal) and am waiting for a prospective employer to finish its background check on me so I can start working, but even if I start tomorrow it'll be a few weeks before I get my first paycheck.

So I'm begging for donations.  Please click here and donate whatever you can:

http://www.gofundme.com/ClevelandVampire

If even four people donate ten dollars each, I can at least get my Internet turned back on for July.

Thank you.

Sinestro Sector Base

Okay, so the Green Lantern Sector Base is live on the marketplace. Now I'm working on the Sinestro version.  The base structure is virtually identical to the Green version, but the interior is very very different.

Early Version
The interior is much more closed, with a central open space, the throne room to the north, four side rooms, and the observation room to the south.

Based on suggestions offered to me I recolored the interior gray and kept the glowy highlights.  Too much yellow for the eyes.  More pics to come.

Sector Bases and Griefers

Okay, the sector base is finished and in the vendors!

You can get this via the marketplace:

https://marketplace.secondlife.com/p/GLC-Sector-Base/4666713

The structure itself is a mere thirty prims and comes unfurnished in its own rezzer.  You can rez that and decorate it to your liking.  If you want the fully furnished version, which is a total of one hundred prims, that version has its own rezzer as well.

Naturally, today we had yet another griefer attack on the sandbox.  We had quite the time returning all his stuff, not least because the scripting allowed it to evade parcel and estate returns.  basically, it kept replicating faster than we could delete them — almost.  Eventually we did get them all.

I'm guessing this clown was compensating for a shortcoming.

Sneak preview: Sector Base

Here are some snapshots I took of my latest GL build.

Lora Chadbourne, who gave me the idea for the partition below.

This breaks up the open space of the sector house and provides computer stations.

So I've been building again...

I moved to a quarter-region in another sim.  The one at Naughty Naughty was a dismal failure.  The club failed because half the staff left, including the general manager and main hostess.  I won't go into the messy details, but it was pretty bad.  I tried to have a store there, but there just weren't enough sales to justify keeping the land.  So I went and got a quarter-region parcel strictly for a home and building.  It's nice.

Anyway, I'm working on a Sector Base now.  It's full-sized and should be awesome.  here's a sneak preview.

More to come.

Racist Griefers in Linden Sandbox

Griefers attacked Sandbox Cordova, a Linden-owned region.  Here's a snapshot.

They (there were at least three different owners for the objects) rezzed giant watermelon slices, boxes with questionable images on them, and a massive, sim-hogging giant glowy rotating thing.  Apparently this region is a griefer's playground, so it gets a lot of attacks, and the griefers have hit Sandbox Oa before, so yeah, not good people at all.  They're basically just kids screwing things up for kicks and giggles, and never mind the inconvenience or the feelings of others.

Names to watch out for in SL:
MCWatermelon

TurdsForCuteness

4ws
Catch these griefers in your region, best thing to to do an immediate estate ban and return all objects.

And naturally, as soon as I teleport back to Sandbox Oa, an object owned by JanitorJonson Resident spams my drop-down menu with anti-Semitic spam.  Oh "joy".

I'm In Da Monehz!

If you can understand what the heck I wrote in the title, you're more capable than I gave you credit for.  Which is saying a lot, because I give most people a lot of credit.

Moohoohaha!

Anyway, I got some extra financial aid I wasn't expecting and my income tax refund should finally be coming late this month or early next month, so I'm a little better off financially than I was.  This means that, later this week, I might just be able to get myself a decent laptop for logging on wherever there's free public wi-fi.  Yay!

That'll actually help out a lot, because I plan to get a gaming laptop capable of running SL.  Maybe a HP?  And I won't be so limited in my ability to connect to the outside world.

Been a busy few days in the sandbox.  People still think ours is a public changing room, and some still can't grasp our rules regarding what people can rez and where.  Mostly it seems to be a language barrier, and I brought it up to the group in group chat about creating the rules in the most commonly-used languages, and I'll do that again at the next meeting on Thursday.

Internet Down

My Internet access is pretty limited for the time being, until my income tax refund goes through.  The IRS is rejecting my return based on its erroneous conclusion that my Employer Identification Number doesn't match what it was last year when I filed.  It does match.  It's the exact same EIN as last year.  I check my W2 forms from last year and this year and they match.  So the error is, as usual, on the part of the IRS.

And naturally, I can't get through to a living person when I call the IRS' number.

Jerks.

Anyway, not much to report today.  Had a couple of people who required several returns of their over-sized builds before they got the message that they need to rez them above 800 meters.  Some people are just thick, I guess.

And I'm noticing that I'm increasingly using British terminology in my otherwise American dialect.  I still refuse to use plural personal pronouns with singular antecedents, which is is an error in grammar usage that, for stupid reasons, is made so often that it's now become commonplace.  No one who does this sees anything wrong with it, but it just looks stupid and lazy as it confuses the reader as to how many individuals are actually being described.

Okay, and of grammar rant.

Sunday Info-Sharing

Typical auto-message that appears whenever a weapon is fired in the sandbox:
[09:47]  The Guardians of OA: Region Sandbox OA is experiencing an attack by yanai Auroline using Turd. The violator has been autobanned by this system but the Guardians request that any available lanterns check for residual damage or spam attack items at http://slurl.com/secondlife/Sandbox OA/129/129/27/
As you can see, this ensures that any GLC member wearing the ring and HUD is notified of such actions in the sandbox.  Usually someone comes immediately to the region.

A zombie appeared in the sandbox.  I know weapons use is forbidden, but I wasn't sure of the policy on rezzing moving targets for shooting, even if only for kicks and not actually to shoot at.

Last night before I logged off someone who's in another Green Lantern-themed group, one I used to be part of, visited New Oa.  She's a pre-Resident SLer, meaning she signed up for her account before Linden Lab eliminated its surname options in 2010 in favor of the generic 'Resident'.  She returned today to the sandbox, this time asking about her friend's application.  Seems cool enough a person.  Maybe a potential new recruit.  Check out her costume:

alexix Cyriac
Nice armor!  I'll have to ask her some time where she got it so I can find out if there's a male outfit.  The GL costume is from the ring set once provided by the owner of the other GL group.  He stopped putting out updates last year after he got fed up with fielding questions about updates and his RL and other gaming activities took over.  It's a real shame, too, because he made really awesome rings and HUD system.

And in other news, someone from about the same time I came to SL visited the sandbox today, who has the same surname as I.  Always a pleasure to see a fellow Mortenwold for some reason.  It lets me know I'm not the only one active in SL who carries the name, ya know?

EDIT (4:01PM EST):

Let's see...

Someone apparently thinks she can use the sandbox as her personal changing room, and she seems to have trouble grasping that it's a PG-rated sim and she can't just stand around naked in public.  Filed an abuse report and some of us have been trying in vain to get her to put clothes on.  English obviously isn't her primary language, but people who do ostensibly speak her apparent native tongue have gone ignored so I don't think she's dumb — she's just being difficult.  Just my opinion for what it's worth.

EDIT (4:13PM EST):

Wow, peeps think we're a nude beach or something!  Ha ha!

Nekkid in the Sky is Still Nekkid

Just had someone standing around naked in the sandbox.  I askered her to go somewhere private to change clothes.  She doesn't answer, but flies up into the sky.  I remind her that flying up in the sky doesn't mean she's in a private area.  She teleports out.

Now, I really don't care if someone wants to be naked, except that New Oa and Sandbox Oa are both PG-rated regions, so nudity is not allowed.

Quiet night with nothing better to do.  Consider this a pointless entry.

Building

Well, I've been at it again building.  This time it's a mini-base for role-playing purposes.  Check out the pics.

Now this item is available on the marketplace.  100% of proceeds go to Relay For Life in SL to help fund cancer research.

https://marketplace.secondlife.com/p/GLC-Mini-Base/4569070

I just completed a Blue variant that will go into the vendors soon, with the same distribution.  Ordinarily I don't like to brag about charity donations, but since I want people to buy/donate, I kinda have to.  Please buy/donate and help raise money for cancer research!

Graduation Pics!

Here are some of the graduation snapshots I took last Friday.  :^D

First Post!

Welcome to Core Concepts, my personal blog for writing as a member if Second Life's Green Lantern Core group!  I'll post news, ideas, and projects related to my activities in the Core.

Last Friday I had the privilege of graduating from 'poozer' training in the GLC, alongside my classmates.  Here are some photos from the event.

These were taken by a classmate and uploaded to the Facebook group timeline.  I'll upload my own snapshots in another post.  Thanks for reading!
